Soyuz TMA-6 Artwork
From Alex Panchenko, the desinger of the patch:

Diamond shape Soyuz TMA-6 patch made for Russia-USA-Italy team launching to the ISS in April, 2005 is a result of my joint work with Sergei Krikalev. Same as previous Soyuz TMA-5 patch this design was also born...in Starbucks Coffee, Santa Monica-California. Sergei had final stage of preparation in Houston and one of last weekends spent on Pacific Coast in California. For Sergei new Soyuz flight would be Sixth space mission and we wanted a patch to be in Diamond shape, as Soviet/Russian Academies graduation badges. Same time we wanted design to be very simple and basic, without complicate ideas and symbols. It took around 15 minutes for couple basic drawings on coffe shop napkins and it was done.

Patches limited made in two variants: wire hand made and roughly machine embroidered in Russia. First time this patch worn by Sergei on his training suit during last weeks of preparation to flight in Star City. (see above).

(JSC2005-E-10714 - April 2005) --- Expedition 11/Soyuz patch for the launch phase of the mission that brought ESA's Roberto Vittori of Italy to the International Space Station for 8 days of commercially-sponsored scientific research.

Eneide

Above: The official ENEIDE mission logo: Left the first version as seen on the official crew photo, (4 stars). Right: The official mission logo.

ENEIDE = Esperimento di Navigazione per Evento Italiano Dimostrativo di EGNOS

ENEIDE, an ESA mission, "His ego nec metas rerum nec tempora pono" (For these men I plot no course, nor do I set limits for their work) (Aenead, I, 278).

Roberto Vittori’s flight to the ISS on the Soyuz spacecraft was dedicated to the memory of Aeneas, whose long voyage in search of a new homeland ended when he founded Rome. “Eneide” (or Aenead in English) is the title of the epic poem written by Virgil, one of the greatest poets of the Augustan period (1st century BC), which describes the mythical events that took place before Aeneas founded Rome.

The mission is co-sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Defence and the Lazio Region, with the support of Finmeccanica, FILAS and the Rome Chamber of Commerce (CCIAA). Many of the experiments are being developed by Italian researchers and built by Italian industry and research institutions.

Special patch

Roberto Vittori wore on his Sokol suit an interesting patch. On the left side it showed the logo for the Regione Lazio and on the right side the logo for the "Aeronautica Militare Italiana".

REGIONE LAZIO, one of the twenty regions the Italian peninsula is divided into. Situated in the centre of Italy, Latium (Lazio in Italian) is an extremely important Region for history, art, economy, architecture, archaeology, religion and culture in general. The region is divided into five provinces: Frosinone, Latina, Viterbo, Rieti and Rome, which is the regional capital and the capital city of Italy as well.
